Carrying Bigger Kids

One of our lovely mums shared this photo on our FB wall this evening; her three year old older girl had had a hard day coping with her smaller sister needing lots of attention. This was the solution; a quick wrap with a Girasol Lillia, to give the tired and frustrated big girl a lovely long cuddle with her mum without mum’s arms getting tired or her back getting sore – this kind of carry distributes the weight well across the back and makes slinging much more comfortable. S was soon much calmer and much less overwrought. Slinging rocks!

This is a front wrap cross carry; one of many possible carries. Short cross carry and kangaroo carry are other front options; hip carries such as Robin’s Hip Carry with a wrap, or a ring sling are also good, and back carries are probably the most popular (less risk of heads knocking together) such as simple rucksack carries, double hammocks, short back cross carry, and back wrap cross carry, not forgetting the array of buckled carriers and mei tais out there too!

People get plenty of chances to try out these carries and more at our friendly frequent meets.. do come along, we’d love to meet you!
